Lucian Leape would like to see hospitals put patient safety at the top of their 2010 strategic plans. Dr. Leape, co-author of the Institute of Medicine's groundbreaking "To Err Is Human" report, talks about the reasons that hospitals are slow to implement appropriate safety measures. He's recommending that hospitals create a strategic plan to implement all known safety practices recommended by the National Quality Forum.
