("Medworxx") (TSX VENTURE: ) today is pleased to announce that St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH), has won the 2013 SouthWest Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) Quality Awards’ category of ‘reducing emergency wait times through the medical value stream.’ The hospital is a Medworxx Patient Flow client. STEGH partnered with Medworxx, KM&T Lean Evolutions, and Community Care Access Centre on this project.

To tackle long wait times in the SouthWest LHIN, STEGH focused on optimizing processes to improve patient flow through the Emergency Room (ER), to inpatient units, and in discharge. STEGH implemented a Lean methodology called Transforming Care, and leveraged Medworxx data in a broader context to make hospital-wide decisions.

“Medworxx Patient Flow allowed us to enhance the effectiveness of ‘bullet rounds’ aimed at reducing hospital Length of Stay which in turn optimized admission throughput,” says Paul Collins, CEO of STEGH. “It’s through Medworxx, and the data and reports that support our decision-making, that we can manage patient flow.”

In early 2013, St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital was also awarded ‘accreditation with exemplary standing’ from Accreditation Canada, which is a national agency that evaluates hospitals across Canada and internationally. STEGH is a long time Medworxx client, having implemented the Medworxx Patient Flow suite including Medworxx Clinical Criteria, Medworxx Bed Management and Medworxx Forms and Assessments.

“We are excited about STEGH’s continued success, having ranked number one with lowest ER wait times in the province,” states Dan Matlow, CEO & President of Medworxx. “Medworxx Patient Flow supports their Transforming Care Lean methodology and allows STEGH to engage front-line staff, increase hospital bed management visibility, and smooth patient flow for organization-wide change.”

Medworxx delivers health information technology solutions to over 350 hospitals internationally; including Canada, United States and United Kingdom. Medworxx helps hospitals meet patient flow challenges, and requirements in compliance and education. Medworxx Clinical Criteria—flagship of Medworxx Patient Flow that includes electronic bed board and independent assessment components—currently serves 33%of the acute care beds in Canada.
