Southeast Anesthesiology Consultants Honored for State-of-the-Art Quantum Clinical Navigation System

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Quantum Clinical Navigation System (Quantum CNS), an advanced quality management and reporting tool developed by Southeast Anesthesiology Consultants (SAC) to make surgical procedures more efficient and deliver better patient care, has received an Excellence in Health Care award from the Charlotte Business Journal.

The award was in the Advancements in Health Care category. SAC and other winners were honored at the Journal's Inaugural Excellence in Health Care Awards & Educational Forum on September 28, 2011.

Quantum CNS measures and reports 50 real-time clinical indicators including patient satisfaction, clinician performance, quality outcomes and operation efficiency. The system is constantly honed using data from 100,000 cases annually and more than 750,000 cases overall, making it perhaps the most advanced program available for applying Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) principles in a medical setting.

Hospitals, practices and individual physicians are also using Quantum CNS for medical credentialing and to prepare for key elements of national healthcare reform such as "pay-for-performance" initiatives and outcomes-based reimbursements.

"Quantum CNS has assured compliance and implementation of established best practices. It has helped our practice decrease costly medical complications, achieving outcomes far below published national benchmarks. Taken together and applied nationally, the healthcare cost curve could be bent by billions," said Richard L. Gilbert, MD, MBA, Regional Medical Director of SAC.

Gilbert added that using Quantum CNS earned SAC designation as an alpha site for the first national anesthesia data registry developed by the Anesthesia Quality Institute (AQI), which is dedicated to quality improvement in the clinical practice of anesthesiology.

"We are very pleased and honored that the Charlotte Business Journal chose to honor Quantum and what it represents," Gilbert said. "Hundreds of our peers are using it to become better medical practitioners and achieve excellent outcomes for their patients. We're proud to be their partners and play even a small role in helping shape the future of our profession."
