WHAT: A briefing by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) about its new accreditation program for Accountable Care Organizations (ACO) that launches November 21.
ACO accreditation is an independent evaluation of health care delivery organizations’ ability to coordinate the high-quality, efficient, patient-centered care expected of ACOs.
NCQA Accreditation is designed:
- To help ACOs distinguish themselves from competitors
- To help purchasers and providers identify ACOs that are likely to be effective partners
- To help consumers find providers who are committed to providing the care they need, when they need it.
WHEN: Monday, November 14, 2011, 9:30 a.m.–11:00 a.m. Eastern time
WHO: This event is open to journalists and others who are interested in how ACOs can achieve the goals of health care reform.
NCQA President Margaret E. O’Kane will summarize the ACO accreditation program.
Guest speakers who helped NCQA develop its program will share their perspectives on ACOs and Accreditation:
- Robert J. Margolis, MD, Managing Partner and CEO, HealthCare Partners, led the ACO Task Force that helped design the NCQA program.
- Edward Murphy, MD, Advisor and Operating Partner at TowerBrook Capital Partners, will address leading an organization that has ACO capabilities—Carillion Clinic, which Dr. Murphy led as COO and then CEO and president for 13 years.
- Kirsten Sloan, Vice President, National Partnership for Women & Families, will discuss consumer protections in ACO accreditation.
