Siemens beats expectations

Siemens reported first quarter numbers that beat expectations as the company benefited from a respectable performance from the Siemens Medical Solutions business unit. The company said net profit rose to €887 million ($1.1 billion) from €781 million a year ago. On Thursday, Siemens announced that it has reached terms to acquire Diagnostic Products, a California-based company specializing in immunodiagnostic kits for the diagnosis of conditions including cancer, heart disease and pregnancy. DPC had sales of $481 million last year.
