Samaritan Hospice Expands Services, Unveils New Name: Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice

MARLTON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- As health care’s landscape continues to evolve, Samaritan has responded by changing its name and expanding its services while maintaining its commitment to providing the region’s best hospice care. Samaritan, founded in 1980 solely as a hospice, is now Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice to better reflect its expanded mission. Since 1980, the organization has cared for more than 50,000 patients and families.

“Our commitment to providing the highest quality hospice care in South Jersey has not changed,” said Mary Ann Boccolini, President/CEO of Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice. “This change clearly communicates that we offer care options for patients and families before they require hospice care,” she added.

Samaritan’s other programs include Palliative Medical Partners, SeniorWise Care Management, Center for Grief Support, and the Institute for Education. Care at all levels is coordinated with physicians, hospitals, home care providers and long-term care facilities.

A study released by Health Affairs in March found Medicaid beneficiaries receiving palliative care show significantly lower hospital costs while getting an extra layer of medical support. They spent less time, and were less likely to die, in an intensive care unit. The palliative care they received resulted in increased communication, care planning guidance, discharge planning and pain and symptom management.

“In addition to a marketplace awareness opportunity, we are adhering to federal mandates calling for more efficient healthcare with a greater emphasis on delivering patient-centered services and outcomes and reducing preventable hospital readmissions,” Boccolini added. “Our expanded palliative programs address these issues head-on.”
