QuadraMed Unveils First Coding Solution to Support Both ICD-9 and ICD-10 Code Sets

Dual coding capabilities enable health systems to better prepare for the ICD-10 transition

RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- QuadraMed® Corporation, a leading provider of healthcare technologies and services that improve the quality, safety and efficiency of patient care, today announced a new version of Quantim® Facility Coding that supports both ICD-9 and ICD-10 code sets. Through the use of Quantim Coding v10, QuadraMed clients can test their ICD-10 interface transactions in combination with live encounters while also using ICD-9 codes.

A dual coding approach enables health systems—like St. Joseph’s Healthcare System and Opelousas General Health System that just signed contracts to implement the new version—to analyze comparative data between the two code sets. As a result, healthcare organizations can avoid unnecessary missed reimbursement opportunities and strengthen staff proficiency with ICD-10. QuadraMed is the first healthcare IT organization to offer a coding solution that supports both ICD-9 and ICD-10 code sets.

“We’ve been a QuadraMed client for many years and have been very pleased with the functionality of the Quantim platform as well as QuadraMed’s customer service support. In fact, we’re currently in the process of implementing Quantim coding /abstracting at another of our campuses,” said Denise Bino, director of medical records for St. Joseph’s Healthcare System. “The new version will prepare our staff for this critical transition by providing them with the tools needed to simulate current and future ICD-10-related changes.”

St. Joseph’s Healthcare is a 1,000 bed organization headquartered in Paterson, New Jersey, and has been a QuadraMed client since 1999.

"We are very pleased to have signed on as one of QuadraMed's first customers to install the ICD-10 version of Quantim,” said Tara Z. Sibille, RHIA, director of health information management for Opelousas General Health System. “Having access to the ICD-10 software within the next year will give our coding staff hands on training in addition to the classroom training that we have already started.”

Opelousas General Health is a 250-bed organization in Opelousas, Louisiana, and has also been a QuadraMed client since 1999.

“Our new release of ICD-10 ready Quantim with dual coding is an important step in our concentrated efforts to help clients move through the transition to ICD-10 with minimal disruption to workflow,” said Duncan W. James, QuadraMed CEO. “Combined with our ICD-10 Countdown Program, the new Quantim version enables clients to not only meet the 2013 deadline, but become early adopters and role models for their colleagues throughout the nation.”

QuadraMed’s ICD-10 Countdown Program provides health systems with data analytics, assessment services, software, and guidance specific to the ICD-10 transition. In June, the company further enhanced the program by announcing a joint educational offering with Elsevier. QuadraMed was also the first to market with an ICD-10 coding simulator that uses the full set of ICD-10 codes and avatar-based simulator training.
