In addition, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) has completed implementation of Perioperative Management by SIS, fully automating documentation within its perioperative department.

The perioperative information management solution, which integrates with Siemens Soarian® enterprise health information system, consists of OR scheduling, pre-admission testing and administrative modules, nursing documentation, an anesthesia information management system (AIMS), inventory control, rules-based charging, and role-based perioperative analytics.

Perioperative Management by SIS will support PinnacleHealth's goals of streamlined and efficient documentation by enabling them to create a comprehensive surgical record which is interoperable with their Soarian® Clinicals solution.  Replacing its current surgical documentation solution, PinnacleHealth will implement the solution in its three Pennsylvania hospitals: Harrisburg Hospital, Community General Osteopathic Hospital, and its West Shore Hospital which is scheduled to open in May 2014.

"Establishing an interoperable surgical record was one of our major objectives in the selection process," said Steven Roth, PinnacleHealth Chief Information Officer.  "With Perioperative Management by SIS, providers can document the entire surgical event, from Pre-Admission Testing through Intraop – including Anesthesia and into PACU – right through to the patient's discharge or transfer to a floor.  And all captured data from the surgical continuum is available to us almost immediately with the solution's robust analytics tools, allowing for timely and meaningful data analyses."

Meridian Health System

Meridian Health System became the most recent health system to select Perioperative Management by SIS for surgical and anesthesia information management.  Consistently rated among the top performing health systems in New Jersey for clinical quality, and the only health system in New Jersey to be ranked as one of the most Integrated Healthcare Systems in the nation according to SDI and Modern Healthcare Magazine, Meridian Health will implement the solution in five of its hospitals: Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Bayshore Community Hospital, Ocean Medical Center, Riverview Medical Center and Southern Ocean Hospital.

"One of the biggest drivers in our decision to select Perioperative Management by SIS was the fact that the comprehensive solution, including anesthesia and analytics, reside on the same single perioperative database," stated Dr. Vincent Cirella, Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.  "This will enable us to document the entire continuum of surgical care, from preadmission to discharge, in a single perioperative record, helping us share information, reduce redundant documentation, and have more time to focus on patient care.  This, combined with the solution's enhanced interoperability with Soarian, made Perioperative Management by SIS the superior choice."

Clinician and executive leaders at HHSC sought to fully automate documentation within their operating rooms to help them improve the cost-effectiveness and quality of the services they deliver as they face the challenges of today's Value-Based Purchasing payment model. HHSC concurrently implemented Perioperative Management by SIS and Soarian.  The combination offered HHSC the enterprise solution they needed to successfully manage surgical services across several locations, support perioperative efficiency and quality, and deliver an integrated workflow that could be easily implemented across multiple facilities.

"Perioperative Management by SIS has given us robust perioperative information technology with the essential tools needed to help us practice safer, more effective, more efficient medicine," said Pat Kalua, Chief Nurse Executive at Kona Community Hospital. "With advanced interoperability, our nursing staff seamlessly accesses information and documents care – efficiently and effectively enabling providers across the care continuum with the right information, in the right place, at the right time."

Essential for clinician efficiency, interoperability features such as single sign-on with patient and application context sharing and Medication Administration integration drive streamlined processes and data continuity which can help meet care delivery goals.  In addition, workflow Wizards allow clinicians to efficiently document cases of all types using tailored, pre-selected processes, which aid in ensuring a comprehensive perioperative record and facilitate broad user adoption of the solution.

"In today's climate, hospitals must constantly look for ways to reduce costs, maximize reimbursements, and maintain care quality," said Ed Daihl, SIS Chief Executive Officer. "The combination of SIS' deep expertise in surgery, integrated with the Siemens Soarian enterprise solution, is an essential component of that strategy for these health systems.  We are honored to have the opportunity to help support their goals."
