Physician Practices Prepare for ANSI 5010 with McKesson’s Latest Practice Management Release

Best in KLAS solution for Practice Management (26-100 physicians) to speed reimbursement and support pay-for-performance initiatives

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Thirty physician practices are using the latest release of McKesson’s Horizon Practice Plus™ practice management system to meet new electronic data interchange requirements mandated by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI 5010). Released in March of this year, the enhanced system features advanced functionality and flexibility to help practices increase efficiency, streamline the revenue cycle and prepare for ANSI 5010 and other upcoming regulations.

With improved claims submission, remittance posting and eligibility verification as well as compliance support, the enhancements are expected to help the practices accelerate reimbursements, increase collection rates, improve productivity and enhance patient service. Mankato Clinic in Mankato, Minn.; Portland Clinic in Portland, Ore.; and Quincy Medical Group in Quincy, Ill., are among those physician practices now using the latest release of McKesson’s Horizon Practice Plus™.

Mankato, one of Minnesota's largest physician-owned, multi-specialty regional group practices, is using the system to improve patient registration and streamline the claims management process. Supported by McKesson’s RelayHealth connectivity solution, Practice Plus now can verify patient eligibility in real-time and feed information directly into the clinic’s registration system, eliminating duplication and ensuring that each patient encounter is reviewed for third-party coverage.

“Practice Plus offers the robust functionality and connectivity we need to continue improving efficiencies across our practice,” said Bob Norman, director of IT, Mankato Clinic. “McKesson has successfully brought us through this conversion with its great technical support team, which we believe is unmatched in the industry.”

Portland Clinic and Quincy Medical Group also are using the new enhancements to drive efficiencies and improve financial outcomes for their facilities. In addition to revenue management capabilities, the practices are using the solution’s business intelligence integration, which enables online and offline ad hoc queries and reporting to help clinicians make effective decisions in less time. Within a controlled and secure information environment, users can customize reports to meet their specific intelligence needs and drive more informed clinical and financial decision-making.

“Beyond ANSI 5010 capabilities, McKesson’s solution is providing us with critical business insight to improve performance and promote more accountable and fiscally-responsible care across our organization,” said Megan Liter, senior director of business service, Quincy Medical Group. “With the Practice Plus business intelligence enhancement, we now have the tools to help us achieve our pay-for-performance objectives.”

“ANSI 5010 reinforces the healthcare industry’s growing trend toward a pay-for-performance model, where providers are rewarded for delivering efficient, high-quality, accountable care to their patients,” said David Henriksen, senior vice president and general manager for McKesson’s Physician Practice Solutions group. “We’re proud to offer a solution that enables increased efficiency and true integration of financial and clinical data to help practices optimize performance without sacrificing care quality.”

Horizon Practice Plus was rated Best in KLAS for Practice Management (26-100 physicians) in the 2010 Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards: Software & Professional Services report for the second year straight1. The proven practice management system facilitates the access, control, analysis, integration and sharing of financial and patient information throughout an organization. The solution helps providers manage the revenue cycle with efficiency and reduce time spent on administrative tasks so they can focus on delivering quality care.
