Parata Revolutionizes Med-Pass with Parata PASS™

DURHAM, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Parata Systems, a Durham-based pharmacy automation leader, is aiming to redefine “med-pass” — the backbone of senior care living with its emblematic paper cups — with Parata PASS™ (Patient Adherence Strip System), a revolutionary approach to medication adherence. It provides long-term care facilities with a customized, unit- or multi-dose medication management system to support shorter cycles, reduce medication waste and tighten inventory management, while increasing safety and nursing time for patient care.

With an eye on CMS short-cycle dispensing rules, which take effect in January 2013, Parata PASS automates medication preparation at pharmacies serving long-term care to reduce labor and lower cost per prescription, while enabling pharmacies to support a range of cycles with their existing resources.

“Long-term care facilities are increasingly pressured to do more with less,” said Tom Rhoads, CEO of Parata Systems. “With Parata PASS, we are simplifying med-pass and giving staff more flexibility with their time, without having to worry about incorrect or missed doses. Parata PASS also helps pharmacies create a differentiated solution that breaks out of the commoditized legacy of blistercards.”

Parata is rebranding the company’s suite of senior care automation, including the flagship of the line, Parata PASS 500, formerly known as PACMED. Also available is a Parata PASS 208 model to accommodate smaller prescription volume levels. This automated dispending machine prepares unit- and multi-dose adherence packaging with high efficiency and accuracy.

Other products in the Parata PASS suite include the Parata Check PASS™, which aids inspection of multi-dose medicine packs, and Parata First PASS™, which facilitates first-dose medication management in residential care facilities. Each of these products is designed to make the jobs of nurses in senior-care settings easier.
