Orion Health to Demonstrate at HIMSS 2011 Interoperability Showcase

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Orion Health, Inc., global leaders in Health Information Exchange (HIE) solutions, will demonstrate its commitment to healthcare integration standards by participating in the HIMSS11 Conference and Exposition Interoperability Showcase in Orlando, February 20-24, 2011.

In January, Orion Health successfully demonstrated success in testing 16 different tests across 8 different Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) profiles at the North American Connectathon in Chicago and will be demonstrating its IHE profiles again in Orlando. The Orion Health IHE profiles will be integrated with other vendors’ systems in the showcase providing a set of real-world scenarios that help healthcare professionals understand how the IHE profiles impact delivery of care. For example, a scenario that traces the workflow of immunization administration and recording will provide pediatricians and public health specialists with a concrete example of the QED and XDR profiles in action.

Orion Health is developing a set of Rhapsody features called the IHE Toolkit, which will be available the second half of 2011 and will be continually updated and extended to cover a broad range of profiles and domains. The Rhapsody IHE toolkit features will include:

  • Rhapsody features to support protocols and message standards.
  • New filters and communication points to simplify common IHE tasks, such as ATNA logging and creating IHE-compliant messages.
  • A testing tool that simulates the other end of IHE interfaces.
  • Documentation specifically written to assist in developing IHE interfaces.

Paul Viskovich, Orion Health President of North America says, “Orion Health and its customers have a long history of accomplishing IHE-compliant integration using Rhapsody Integration Engine. This experience was put to good use as Orion Health builds a set of product features called the IHE toolkit. The aim of this endeavor is to bring Rhapsody’s ease of use to the challenge of creating IHE-compliant integrations.”

IHE is an international initiative to improve interoperability among healthcare information systems. IHE promotes the coordinated use of established standards such as DICOM and HL7 to address specific clinical needs in support of optimal patient care. Systems developed in accordance with IHE communicate with one another better, are easier to implement, and enable care providers to use information more effectively. IHE provides two parallel tracks for pursuing the goal. At IHE Connectathons, vendors meet to demonstrate their ability to connect their systems according to profiles prescribed by IHE standards. At IHE Showcases, a clinical audience is led through a simulated workflow in which patient data is transferred among vendor systems using the same profiles.
