Ohio Medicaid expansion would increase hospital price transparency

Ohio Gov. John Kasich's proposed Medicaid expansion would grant the power to insist hospitals and other healthcare providers reveal more information about the actual cost of procedures and the quality of care, said Greg Moody, director of the state's Office of Health Transformation, The Columbus Dispatch reported. Moody expects that in a few years, Ohio will deliver an ultimatum to healthcare providers, even though the state hasn't formalized it as a policy: "If you want to do business with Medicaid, we expect price transparency."

Ohio is among at least 30 states that require some healthcare pricing disclosure, the Dispatch noted. But thus far, those statistics have been of little value to healthcare consumers. Article
