, the leader in home sleep testing and cost-saving solutions for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) management, announces its first AccuSom Deliver™ partnership with SSM Center for Sleep Disorders, a service of SSM Health Care – St. Louis, making convenient, efficient Out-of-Center Sleep Testing (OCST) available to patients at seven locations throughout the area beginning October 1, 2012.

Located in the St. Louis, Mo., metropolitan region, SSM Center for Sleep Disorders is a leader in the specialized diagnosis and treatment of sleep-related breathing disorders such as OSA, offering the latest technology and following the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s standards for evaluating and performing . The AccuSom Deliver program will allow the sleep centers to significantly increase capacity with access to a complete OCST logistics solution, while maintaining complete clinical control of their patients. The program offering includes a cloud-based portal for the seven sleep centers to enable efficient management of uncomplicated adult OSA diagnosis in the comfort of the patient’s home.

Team Leader of SSM Center for Sleep Disorders, Daniel Tirado, said, “Sleep apnea is highly prevalent in Missouri and with our seven locations throughout the metropolitan St. Louis area, previously we’ve considered offering out-of-center or home sleep testing to allow us to diagnosis more patients, faster. However, purchasing or renting home sleep testing devices in bulk would have required a significant operations and logistics burden in-house, from device delivery to validation of testing-in-progress to device retrieval. We are very excited to be working with NovaSom and plan to utilize the turnkey AccuSom Deliver program to provide speed-to-market, reduce operating expenses, eliminate any capital burden and give us the ability to adjust instantly to spikes in volume.”

Leveraging more than ten years’ experience with turnkey OCST, the AccuSom Deliver program allows Sleep Centers to enjoy the scale and operating efficiency of NovaSom’s proprietary MediTrack® operating platform and StudyViewer® interpretation portal. The new portal is integrated with the AccuSom® testing device, the first and only wireless out-of-center sleep study device approved by the FDA.

Once a sleep specialist prescribes an OCST through the cloud-based portal, NovaSom ships the device directly to the patient’s home. NovaSom’s Clinical Team provides proactive, 24/7 clinical support to patients throughout the testing protocol. Leveraging NovaSom’s mHealth partnership with Verizon, the test data is transmitted wirelessly through the Verizon Network to the portal and presented in a user-friendly display ready for sleep specialist interpretation.

Richard Hassett, MD, CEO, NovaSom, Inc., said, “The addition of out-of-center testing to SSM Center for Sleep Disorders will extend their sleep specialists’ reach in every market served with a highly convenient, clinically-accurate OSA testing solution that will significantly shorten the elapsed time to diagnosis. The true benefit of the AccuSom Deliver program and online portal is the ability to virtually remove the capital expenditure and administrative burdens that often make OCST impractical for sleep centers to implement at scale.”

NovaSom’s sleep testing technology meets the American Academy of Sleep Medicine guidelines for a Type-III portable monitor and has been proven clinically equivalent to traditional polysomnography in two peer-reviewed publications. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) affects 40 million Americans, of which 18 million have moderate to severe disease.
