North York General Hospital Goes Live With More Than 300 Evidence-Based Order Sets Integrated Into Their Electronic Health

First Hospital in Canada to Provide Clinical Decision Support with Evidence-Based Order Sets at the Point of Care

LOS ANGELES, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Zynx Health, the market leader in providing evidence-based and experience-based clinical decision support solutions, today announced the successful implementation of ZynxOrder at North York General Hospital in Toronto, Canada. Leading the way in improving patient care, North York General Hospital is the first hospital in Canada to successfully implement evidence-based clinical decision support integrated into their computerized provider order entry (CPOE) system, available at the point of care.

Focused on improving patient safety, North York General Hospital selected Zynx Health for the foundation of their evidence-based content to be delivered through their Cerner electronic health record (EHR) system. “Zynx Health is an essential partner in achieving our goal to provide our patients with the safest, highest quality care possible,” said Dean Martin, vice president of finance and information technology and chief financial officer at North York General Hospital. “Together with our technology partners, including Zynx Health, we have now achieved HIMSS Stage 5, and are the first hospital in our province to do so.”

North York chose Zynx Health for their robust library of regularly updated evidence-based order set templates, their proven integration with the Cerner EHR, and their content management system and online collaboration tools which enable convenient interdisciplinary team participation in the order set customization process. During implementation of the project, North York drew upon the support of the Zynx Health client services team for customizing order sets, gaining proficiency in the online collaboration tools, integrating the order sets into their EHR, familiarizing themselves with the order sets in the EHR, and transitioning to CPOE on the go-live date. The collaboration ensured a successful launch as they released more than 300 evidence-based order sets into the clinical workflow.

“A significant proportion of preventable errors involve medications prescribed and administered using traditional, manual systems,” said Jeremy Theal, MD, director of medical informatics and gastroenterologist at North York General Hospital. “By integrating the latest medical literature and implementing barcode scanning, we are raising the bar on patient care and preventing errors to significantly improve patient safety. Ultimately, we have new tools that research shows will help people get better faster and save lives.”

Having evidence-based order sets integrated into the hospital’s CPOE system and made available at the point of care will ensure that patient safety at North York continues to improve.

“We congratulate North York General Hospital for being the first hospital in Canada to offer evidence-based clinical decision support integrated into their hospital EHR system,” said Kimberly Denney, vice president of international at Zynx Health. “As their partner in bringing evidence to the bedside, we support North York as they continue to show improvements in clinical outcomes and enhance the overall quality of patient care.”
