With more than 450 employees, SCHC, Inc. serves approximately 45,000 individuals in the city of Syracuse and surrounding counties, addressing various social determinants of health by providing access to comprehensive, culturally sensitive, cost-effective primary healthcare. This spans approximately 70 percent of Syracuse’s at-risk population. Primary and preventive care services, inclusive of medical, dental, and behavioral health services, are provided to individuals of all ages, regardless of their ability to pay.

SCHC, Inc. requires more than standard clinical and financial systems to meet its robust reporting requirements as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). The Center will leverage NextGen Practice Management to more effectively streamline its comprehensive array of services and increase charge capture capabilities, eliminate document storage fees and improve operational efficiencies. NextGen Ambulatory EHR and NextGen EDR will integrate SCHC’s clinical, scheduling, pharmacy and dental services to create a comprehensive medical management platform. This in turn supports the Center’s (MU) efforts and plans to achieve Level 3 National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) (PCMH) criteria.

In addition to MU attestation and PCMH advancements, NextGen solutions will enable SCHC, Inc. to connect to the local Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) and streamline patient care and decrease redundant services.

“NextGen Healthcare’s robust system will more effectively streamline our delivery of service as well as provide the infrastructure for SCHC, Inc. to become a Level 3 PCMH,” said Dr. Ruben P. Cowart, president and CEO, SCHC Companies, Inc. “Through this relationship, we will streamline the adoption of quality care models such as PCMH and achieve MU requirements. This action will ultimately enable our 'System of Care' to provide more efficient, cost-effective, higher quality care for our patients, resulting in improved health outcomes within Syracuse and Central New York.”

“Federally Qualified Health Centers like SCHC, Inc. face distinct clinical and business challenges and often require myriad technologies to succeed,” said Michael Lovett, senior vice president, Ambulatory Division manager, NextGen Healthcare. “Our 30 percent share of the 1,300+ national FQHC market demonstrates that we understand these challenges, possess both the expertise and an integrated multi-product technology offering to help Community Health Centers succeed by delivering quality, collaborative, cost-effective care in medical home settings that can improve the health of patient populations.”
