Newt continues to stump for IT

The Center for Health Transformation, the Washington think-tank founded by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, held a meeting yesterday to talk about all of the good things electronic medical records can do. The "CHT Connectivity Conference: Accelerating Transformation Through Health IT" was sponsored by IDX systems. The conference showcased successful connectivity initiatives, including the Nebraska Statewide Telehealth Network, the Indiana Network for Patient Care, the PeaceHealth Community Health Record and CalRHIO.

In the headline speech, Gingrich said that the chaos following Hurricane Katrina is "definitive proof of the need to dramatically improve the current system." Many of the healthcare organizations that fund Mr. Gingrich's think-tank may just have noticed that the former house speaker is being touted as a Republican candidate for President in 2008.
