Mumps outbreak hits the Midwest

An outbreak of mumps (the disease, not the database code) in the Midwest is now officially the worst in decades. The CDC says two infected airline passengers are believed to have carried the disease with them when they traveled in late May and early April. The agency says about 500 people in Iowa are suspected to have contracted the disease. As of Monday, Nebraska had 43 reported cases; Kansas, 33; Illinois, four; Missouri, four; Wisconsin, four; and Minnesota, one.
