Morrow Institute’s Allan Wu, MD, to Present at Stem Cells 2012 Conference

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Allan Wu, MD, co-founder and chief scientific officer of The Morrow Institute’s Non-Controversial Stem Cell Research Lab in Rancho Mirage, CA, has been invited to present his research findings at Stem Cells 2012, a global conference in San Diego, CA. Dr. Wu’s presentation, scheduled for 11:15 a.m. on Friday, February 3, is entitled, “Clinical Dielectrophoresis for the Isolation of Live Adult Stem Cells: Practical Findings from First Human Use in the Hand Atrophy Model.”

“We are thrilled to present our groundbreaking work before such a prestigious body of physicians and investigators,” says David Morrow, MD, founder and director of The Morrow Institute. Adipose derived stem cells are currently under intense investigation around the globe and are already in common use within the fields of plastic reconstructive surgery and regenerative medicine. Clinicians and patients both appreciate stem cell enhanced autologous adipose tissue transfer, commonly known as Cell-Assisted Lipotransfer (also known as CAL) because rejection is non-existent and most patients have ample supplies of fat tissue. “Efficient harvesting and collection of live fat derived stem cells in the surgical suite using our international patent pending Stem Cell Optimizer™ has positive implications for clinicians and researchers worldwide,” explains Dr. Morrow.

Current methods of stem cell therapy involve isolation and transfer of both live and dead stem cells. “Transplanting dead stem cells can inhibit the success of tissue grafts and regenerative function,” Dr. Wu explains. “Using the Stem Cell Optimizer™, we maximize live stem cell content, making CAL more stable and predictable. The Optimizer uses dielectrophoresis (DEP), a process whereby live cells are isolated based on the stem cell’s natural electronic ‘signature.’ We applied this method in the clinical setting for isolation of live adipose derived stem cells used for reconstruction of the human hand. Our findings, the first ever reported use of clinical DEP derived stem cells, will be presented at the conference.”

The Morrow Institute is one of the longest established Specialty Plastic Surgery® practices in the world. It features a fully AAAHC accredited outpatient surgery center dedicated to health and aesthetic enhancement through skin rejuvenation, laser cosmetic surgery, and specialty/plastic/reconstructive surgery and an FDA registered stem cell research laboratory and tissue bank.

Stem Cells 2012, presented by Select Biosciences, spotlights the latest work from highly respected and prestigious clinicians and scientists committed to stem cell research.
