Mississippi Health Partners Taps RelayHealth for Health Information Exchange and Clinical Collaboration to Improve Communi

MHP Physician and Hospital Members to Pursue Incentives for Meaningful Use of Healthcare Information Technology (HIT)

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Mississippi Health Partners (MHP), a managed care organization in Jackson, Miss., has selected RelayHealth as its partner to enable clinical collaboration among MHP’s more than 800 physician and 13 hospital members and facilitate electronic communications between healthcare professionals and their patients. RelayHealth will also support MHP’s objectives to securely exchange health information (HIE) and to qualify for government incentives.

“By clinically connecting using RelayHealth, MHP will create a connected healthcare community network across Mississippi that enhances the patient’s healthcare experience, and will add exceptional value to our portfolio of managed care services for our provider members,” said James Fuzy, President and CEO of Mississippi Health Partners. “This will be a way to differentiate ourselves strategically as a market leader while improving patient care. Physicians will want to adopt the online tools because they know that closer communication with patients and increased continuity of care create more positive clinical outcomes.”

“Baptist Health Systems and St. Dominic Health Services are among the MHP hospital members that compete with one another, but they and all of our hospital members realize the importance of becoming collaborators and of sharing clinical information electronically to enable a true community-wide continuum of care,” Fuzy noted. “With the government working on stage-two meaningful use rules, electronic connections matter more than ever. Leveraging RelayHealth’s clinical collaboration technology for health information exchange will make it easier for our members to perform the required functions to coordinate and improve patient care across a variety of settings and stakeholders.”

Branded “MHPConnect,” the MHP HIE is now accessible to member physicians and their patients, enabling them to communicate securely about non-urgent healthcare matters. During the initial phase, patients will be able to send secure messages to their doctor and practice staff, schedule appointments, request medication refills, and access patient education resources. MHPConnect services include physician referral requests, the delivery of lab and radiology results, and RelayClinical™ webVisit® consultations. Every patient encounter with an MHP provider member will be recorded to a Web-based Personal Health Record (PHR) which is automatically created when the patient registers to use the online service.

A patient-centric approach is important for Mississippi, where a significant portion of the patient population relies on Medicare or Medicaid to cover healthcare expenses. RelayHealth’s HIE connectivity service gives ALL patients who see MHP-affiliated physicians affordable and improved access to routine healthcare services. “You’re not blocked from access to RelayHealth just because you’re not an MHP-covered patient,” said Fuzy. “We are offering this service for free to every patient regardless of their insurance coverage.”

“MHPConnect is a great example of communities working together and making a dramatic difference in transforming healthcare delivery,” said Jim Bodenbender, president of RelayHealth Connectivity Solutions. “RelayHealth powers hospitals and health systems nationwide for clinical integration and secure health information exchange within their organizations, their communities and beyond.”
