, a Member of the of will present during an American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) Graduate Medical Education Bootcamp Webinar on Thursday, October 25.

The education and training of young physicians in academic medical centers and teaching hospitals across the country takes place in graduate medical education programs (residencies and fellowships) that are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). In March 2012, the ACGME introduced an entirely new accreditation system (the “Next Accreditation System” or the “NAS”), which is scheduled for implementation in two phases, beginning on July 1, 2013. The presenters at the AHLA webinar will be a senior ACGME official, a senior medical education officer from an academic medical center in Texas, and Mr. Roth.

The webinar will provide an overview of the current and new ACGME accreditation requirements. Mr. Roth’s presentation will focus on the role of attorneys for teaching institutions in understanding the accreditation requirements, advising clients how best to comply with the requirements, and how to handle situations in which residency or fellowship programs receive notice of adverse accreditation decisions.

Mr. Roth has been a practicing health lawyer for more than 30 years. His extensive experience, in addition to his national graduate medical education accreditation practice, covers the representation of a wide array of clients in the health industry, both on the provider side (including multi-hospital systems and individual hospitals of all sizes, nursing homes, and physician groups), and on the payor side (including managed care companies, HMOs, and prepaid health service plans). Mr. Roth is also active in health industry mergers and acquisitions, and the establishment of joint ventures and other collaborative affiliations. In the regulatory area, he counsels clients in connection with corporate compliance and corporate governance, fraud and abuse, hospital-medical staff matters, HIPAA, and Medicare/Medicaid matters.
