Miami Jewish Health Systems Enhances Quality of Patient Care and Workforce Productivity with Motorola Wireless Network

SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Feb 18, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX News Network/ -- The Enterprise Mobility Solutions business of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that Agilysys, a leading provider of innovative IT solutions and Motorola Premiere Solution Partner, will deploy Motorola's HIPAA-compliant end-to-end wireless LAN (WLAN) and AirDefense solutions at Miami Jewish Health Systems to support current and future mobility initiatives.

Miami Jewish Health Systems is one of the largest and most comprehensive health care facilities in southeast Florida, treating 3,700 people daily through on-campus medical, residential and community programs. About 3,000 of these patients currently receive care through programs designed to keep them out of nursing homes and functioning independently in the community.

"Our on-campus facilities are spread across twenty acres, with both indoor and outdoor locations, and we also provide healthcare services to the community. We needed a robust and scalable infrastructure that would provide reliable wireless coverage, while ensuring accurate information availability at the point of care," said Shubho Chatterjee, Ph.D., P.E, chief information officer, Miami Jewish Health Systems. "We selected Motorola's WLAN solution to provide mobility to current and future clinical and operational applications, and to further enhance patient care delivery and resident experience inside and outside of our various facilities."

The 802.11n WLAN solution utilizes Motorola's RFS7000 wireless switches, coupled with dual- and tri-radio AP-7131 and AP-5181 access points to ensure maximum indoor and outdoor wireless coverage, while supporting virtually any enterprise application, including voice and video. Motorola's unique tri-radio 802.11n access point allows one radio to be dedicated to security and troubleshooting, while the remaining two radios provide high-speed access, thus eliminating the cost and complexity of deploying separate sensor radios, for reliable and secure healthcare deployments. In addition, Miami Jewish Health Systems has installed the industry-leading Motorola AirDefense wireless security and monitoring solution to protect against wireless security threats and help meet HIPAA compliance guidelines. The AirDefense solution provides around-the-clock proactive system monitoring and creates a safety net over the network to reduce risk of rogue attacks and to provide better tools for reporting, compliance and remote troubleshooting of the new wireless network.

"Motorola's WLAN solution is a high-performance network that provides cost-effective, reliable and scalable wireless coverage for residents, staff and guests," said Paul Civils, senior vice president, Agilysys. "Coupled with Motorola's AirDefense security and network monitoring, and Agilysys managed mobility services, this solution lays a foundation for future wireless service capabilities as Miami Jewish Health Systems looks to expand."

The Motorola infrastructure supports a variety of handheld medical devices, from mobile computers to VoIP phones, for both enterprise and clinical applications, including asset tracking and electronic medical records, designed to improve efficiencies and provide accurate information at the point of care. As care delivery becomes increasingly mobile, the Motorola network will support Miami Jewish Health Systems by expanding its wireless capabilities to reach more patients and enhance point-of-care quality and employee productivity, while offering patients and residents greater independence and confidence in its services.

"Mobility is a key goal for the healthcare industry as it looks for new and cost-effective ways to increase staff productivity, provide more accurate information to improve patient care and reduce overall costs," said Vivian Funkhouser, principal, Global Healthcare Solutions, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions. "With Motorola's wireless network solution, Miami Jewish Health Systems has the right infrastructure in place to stay competitive in today's market."
