Metropolitan Health Networks’ Dr. Guethon and Humana’s Dr. Sherman to Address The 7th Annual World Health Care Congr

Presenters to Discuss Their Blueprint for Health Care Reform at the Grassroots Level

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Metropolitan Health Networks, Inc. (NYSE AMEX:MDF), (“Metcare”), a leading provider of healthcare services in Florida, today announced that Jose Guethon, MD, MBA, President and Chief Operating officer, will share part of Metcare’s Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) success story in Washington, DC next week. Dr. Guethon will be presenting in conjunction with Dr. Michael Sherman of Humana.

Dr. Guethon will present “Critical System Changes to Build a Medical Home – Improved Collaboration between Physicians and Payer Organizations” to an audience at the World Health Care Congress on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. Topics include key characteristics of a provider practice to effectively carry out a medical home; successful re-alignment of incentives to support a PCMH; and strategies to form a primary care clinic with in-house and outsourced PCMH models.

Three years ago, Metropolitan began transforming a number of its Metcare medical practices from traditional models to a PCMH model. In August of 2008, Metcare and Humana agreed to collaborate on a pilot program to formally study the impact of the PCMH model in a Medicare Advantage (MA) capitated group. A 12-month analysis of the study outcomes revealed compelling results for utilization, financial, and quality metrics. Metropolitan’s practices were the first in Florida to be recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Level 3 National Physician Practice Connections® – Patient-Centered Medical Home™ (PPC®-PCMHTM).

“Under the PCMH model, we are delivering unprecedented and measurable healthcare reform and savings without sacrificing quality,” said Michael Earley, Chief Executive Officer of Metropolitan Health Networks. “Working within our means and without government intervention, we believe PCMH is a logical and practical future of healthcare delivery. Working together with a high caliber partner such as Humana, we are looking forward to sharing our success story as a blueprint for organizations interested in making an impact on health care reform at the grassroots level.”
