Medica and Mayo Clinic Expand Relationship

Members to Gain In-Network Access to Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.

MINNETONKA, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Medica and Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., announced that they have expanded their relationship with an agreement that provides Medica members with employer-sponsored coverage in-network access to Mayo Clinic physicians and hospitals beginning January 1, 2011.

“Mayo Clinic is recognized nationally for delivering quality health care and we are excited to expand our relationship with them so that more of Medica’s members will have access to Mayo’s team approach to diagnosis, treatment and specialty care,” said Charles Fazio, M.D., Medica’s chief medical officer. “We anticipate that this arrangement will add great value for our members.”

Mayo Clinic works with Medica and many other insurance companies and is an in-network provider for millions of people. Members may access the Mayo Clinic directly. They may also choose to discuss this with their primary care doctor when evaluating treatment options for their condition.

This arrangement is in addition to the existing relationship between Medica and Mayo. Mayo Health System, a network of clinics, hospitals and other healthcare facilities serving more than 60 communities in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin, currently is an in-network provider for many of Medica’s members, including those with employer-sponsored coverage. The expanded arrangement adds the Mayo Clinic location in Rochester, Minn.
