Medica and Fairview Introduce New Product for Individuals and Families

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- A health plan and a provider are working together to improve the quality of care, manage the total cost of care and optimize the consumer experience. Medica and Fairview Health Services announced today that the organizations are collaborating to offer Harmony with Medica and FairviewSM, a new lower-cost product for individuals who purchase health insurance on their own.

“Individual purchasers are looking for even more value because they pay for premiums and other health care costs directly from their own pockets,” said Dannette Coleman, Medica’s vice president and general manager of individual and family business. “Harmony with Medica and Fairview demonstrates the cost savings we can achieve through a high level of integration between our two organizations.”

Harmony with Medica and Fairview will be available beginning April 1 and will feature premium costs that are 10 percent less than the same products currently offered by Medica to individuals and families.

Harmony with Medica and Fairview provides purchasers with access to a localized network with nearly 2,000 physicians, more than 350 primary and specialty care clinics, and all the Fairview hospitals in the Twin Cities metro area, including University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview and University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital.

Integrated Service Creates New Consumer Experience

The reduced premiums offered through Harmony with Medica and Fairview are a direct result of a unique collaboration between Medica and Fairview that began in 2009 and has resulted in lower costs, improved quality of care and a reengineered approach to service that extends across both organizations. For example, the Harmony with Medica and Fairview plan includes:

  • Single Coverage and Care Team phone number for members to call for assistance with diverse topics such as claims and benefit questions, or talking with a triage nurse or scheduling an appointment. No longer is the member put in the middle of the relationship between their provider and insurer.
  • Dedicated web portal where members can look up benefits, view claims, search for network providers, access their personal health record, schedule appointments securely or arrange an online or virtual visit. Members will find all of their care and coverage information and resources through a single web portal. Prospective members can find information about the product through the portal, as well.
  • Coverage for web-based video “virtual” appointments with Fairview Health Network providers, saving members both time and money.
