MedAssurant and Jefferson School of Population Health Establish Strategic Partnership

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania and BOWIE, Maryland - September 9, 2009 - MedAssurant, Inc., a leading provider of data-driven healthcare solutions, and the Jefferson School of Population Health, a leader in research and education in pharmacoeconomics and population health research, announced today that the two organizations have signed an agreement that will facilitate their collaboration on health economics, comparative effectiveness research, and related healthcare research initiatives.

The Jefferson School of Population Health is an acknowledged leader in pharmacoeconomics and health outcomes research with a mission to prepare leaders with global vision to develop, implement, and evaluate health policies and systems that improve the health of populations and thereby enhance the quality of life. "The opportunity to bring our research and methodologic expertise to MedAssurant's extensive datasets, infrastructural scale, and nationwide interventional capabilities promises to power the next generation of Comparative Effectiveness Research at a time when companies and policy makers desperately need this insight," said David B. Nash, MD, MBA, Dean of the School of Population Health. "Perhaps more exciting still, however, is the ability to apply the results of our combined work to inform solutions designed to achieve meaningful impact in care and outcomes. This is, after all, the goal sought through our work in population health."

Stakeholders across the healthcare landscape are seeking to improve their understanding of the clinical, quality, and economic impacts of specific medications, devices, diagnostics, and differing approaches to care. MedAssurant believes that advanced analytics, applied across large, clinically enriched datasets, are the key to providing the insights that will materially improve the clinical quality, outcomes, and financial performance of the U.S. healthcare system. "MedAssurant maintains a rich clinical data warehouse, the Medical Outcomes Research for Effectiveness & Economics (MORE2) Registry, which is unique within the healthcare community," said Cary Sennett, MD, PhD, MedAssurant's Chief Medical Officer. "This Registry and the data collection, aggregation, and analysis infrastructure which support it, enable advanced insights that are empowering meaningful improvements in the care for patients. Our partnership with the School of Population Health at Thomas Jefferson University helps us to further advance and expand these efforts. It is a pleasure and privilege to be working together in the advancement of healthcare effectiveness research."

The relationship will focus on applications of Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER), Health Economic Outcomes Research (HEOR), safety and surveillance initiatives, and pharmacoeconomics research. Thomas Jefferson University will also provide Institutional Review Board (IRB) services for research undertaken through the partnership in supporting needs of clinical trials and other similar initiatives.
