Mannatech Goes 'Green' and Supports Local Earth Day Celebrations

COPPELL, Texas, April 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Eleven hours a day, six days a week, Mannatech, Incorporated, (Nasdaq: MTEX) locally packs and ships its nutritional supplements and skin care products to consumers throughout the United States and Canada. Mannatech uses more than 20 tons of packaging monthly sending products throughout North America, where a majority of the company's 575,000 independent Associates and Members live.

Mannatech began using recycled corrugated boxes in November 2007. Annually, this move will save an estimated 4,000 trees, 980,000 gallons of fresh water, 735,000 kilowatt hours of energy and 610 cubic yards of landfill space -- resources that would have been used to make non-recycled boxing.

"As a company that values Earth's natural resources, Mannatech is committed to reducing its carbon footprint by 'going green.' More importantly, our employees are delighted to do what they can to help conserve resources," said company Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President Terry O'Day. "We are continually looking for ways to conserve energy and reduce waste, and we appreciate the opportunity to partner with our local community to keep our environment beautiful."

In addition to using recycled boxing, Mannatech also has replaced its non-biodegradable plastic packing cushions with paper packing materials made from post-consumer fiber. The company recycles most of the paper and plastic waste generated by its 70,000-square-foot distribution center. Last year, Mannatech replaced the metal halide lighting in the distribution center with 110 lamp fixtures that burn with new fluorescent technology that uses half the wattage and lasts one-and-a-half times longer.

The company has taken other green initiatives. In addition to replacing all lighting in its corporate headquarters with the same fluorescent technology, Mannatech recycles all burned-out light bulbs and ballasts as well as about 40 tons of paper annually. The company has installed new systems to regulate lighting and heating and air conditioning -- the two largest consumptions of energy in commercial industry. These changes have helped Mannatech curb energy costs by 9 percent, reducing its average daily electricity consumption by nearly 100 kilowatt hours.

Mannatech has also joined the greater community in other conservation and beautification projects, including working with the "Don't Mess With Texas" Adopt a Highway program and the "Keep Coppell Beautiful" Adopt a Location program. Most recently, the company sponsored the Clean Coppell EarthFest event on Saturday, April 5. The city of Dallas, in conjunction with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, is holding EarthFest 2008 on Friday, April 18, to educate the public about the environment.
