Most recently, Lehigh Valley Hospital was recognized by the American Hospital Association as leader in community outreach. Technologically, Lehigh lives up to its "Most Wireless" billing, as it currently uses radio-frequency identification to help track patients throughout its 22 operating suites, according to The Morning Call, an Allentown, Pa.-based newspaper.

Lehigh also has been recognized as a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Association, which means it provides some of the best nursing care in the nation. For 15 consecutive years, U.S. News & World Report has listed Lehigh Valley as one of the top hospitals in a number of different categories, including geriatrics, heart care, gastrointestinal disorders and respiratory disorders, among others.

This past December, 66 doctors with the system--including eight heart specialists--were named to the "Best Doctors in America" list compiled by Best Doctors, Inc., which polls other physicians about who they would want working on them or their family members.
