The Leapfrog Group released its annual Top Hospitals rankings, a list of providers with top scores in several categories, including safety, quality and resource use. The group named 94 hospitals in 2014: 25 rural health organizations, 60 in urban settings and nine children's hospitals. Massachusetts doubled the number of hospitals making the list, while providers in Kentucky, Rhode Island and Alabama were represented in the rankings for the first time. "These Top Hospitals represent the best of American healthcare and deserve to be recognized for their commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of their patients," announced Leapfrog Group President and CEO Leah Binder.
