Electronic Technology Blocks Illegal Sales, Allows Legal Ones
LUTHERVILLE, Md., Oct. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) – a nonprofit organization that facilitates cooperation between law enforcement, healthcare professionals, state regulatory agencies and pharmaceutical manufacturers in the prevention and investigation of drug diversion – today released the latest results achieved by the real-time, stop-sale system in Kentucky. Data aggregated through the National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx) for the first three quarters of 2012 shows electronic technology in the Bluegrass State blocked the sale of more than 24,000 boxes of medicines containing pseudoephedrine (PSE) preventing more than 62,000 grams from potentially being diverted by meth criminals.
"While the Commonwealth of Kentucky continues to wage a long battle against methamphetamine cooks and dealers, retailers around the state are seeing results using real-time, stop-sale technology that blocks unlawful attempted purchases of products containing pseudoephedrine," said Charles F. "With thousands of blocks each month, Kentucky law enforcement officials can access valuable criminal data in real time. Officers can receive alerts when a suspect has exceeded his pseudoephedrine purchasing limits or when a pharmacy makes an abnormal number of sales in a given time period. By targeting criminals, NPLEx ensures that responsible Kentuckians will continue to have access to the cold and medicines of their choice."
