A month after the scandal that forced the closure of its kidney transplant program in San Francisco, Kaiser Permanente has transferred only a handful of the patients to other programs. The records of only about fifty patients have been sent to UC Davis and UC San Francisco, the two regional facilities that are accepting refugees from the Kaiser program. Two thousand patients remain on the waiting list to be transferred out. The Los Angeles Times reports that during the brief time the program was in operation, twice as many patients died as received transplants. Statewide that ratio was reversed, with twice as many patients surviving as dying.
