Iowa Regional Extension Center Selects Greenway EHR Solutions

$5.5 Million Grant to Advance EHR Meaningful Use Reporting to 1200 Iowa Providers

CARROLLTON, Ga., July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Iowa Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center (HITREC) has selected Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc., provider of the single-database, integrated electronic health record (EHR), practice management and interoperability solution PrimeSuite®, as a preferred EHR solution for its statewide deployment program within the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) REC healthcare grant program.

The Iowa REC is administered by IFMC, which estimates that 60 percent of its statewide physician groups remain paper based, and that the REC program is targeting 1200 high-priority practices.

"We selected Greenway because of its comprehensive functionality and ability to assist our targeted providers in primary care practices achieve meaningful use. We are confident that our preferred EHR providers can help more than 1200 physicians, physician's assistants and nurse practitioners throughout the state of Iowa," said Kim Downs, senior director of operations at IFMC. "EHR selection can be a difficult task for providers when there are more than 200 EHRs available in the marketplace. We are confident that Greenway can help them achieve meaningful use and receive their incentive payment."

The selection process also included scoring based on functionality, pricing and live demonstration analyses.

In April, the New York City REC, administered by the NYC Regional Electronic Adoption Center for Health (NYC REACH), selected Greenway for its $21.7 million program, followed in June by selection for the state of New York's $26.5 million REC grant administered by the New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC).

"Greenway is very gratified to be a preferred solution partner of the Iowa Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center, and we will continue to bring the same commitment and diligence to improved healthcare outcomes to the region that we have already established for physician practice customers in Iowa, a track record we know was another positive consideration for the selection of PrimeSuite," said President and CEO Tee Green. "As with Greenway's previous REC selections, we are fully invested in the core EHR functionalities and data exchange proving meaningful to individual practices and to a fully-realized national health information network."

Overall, the national HHS REC program has granted $598 million to establish 60 centers linking group practices, critical access hospitals, community health centers and related healthcare organizations through sustainable two-year grants to deploy EHRs in those settings to connect healthcare organizations and establish meaningful use functionality.
