Industry’s Newest Web-based EHR Combines Sophisticated Features with Affordability, Ease-of-use

McKesson integrated solution is tailor-made for independent primary care practices

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- McKesson today announced McKesson Practice Choice™, a fully integrated electronic health record (EHR) and practice management solution that puts advanced yet easy-to-use technology within reach of small independent primary care practices. The industry’s newest Web-based EHR offers clinical, financial and operational tools on a single database.

Certified for Stage 1 Meaningful Use, the solution enables physicians to deploy the system with minimal disruption, then care for patients from any location with an Internet connection. The use of exclusive Smart Note technology enables charting of progress notes on a single screen, with key data elements automatically populating all pertinent fields throughout a patient’s chart. The result – more time for patient care.

“We’ve clearly seen the need for a contemporary EHR alternative for primary care practices – one that’s easier to install and adopt, yet has the rich functionality of larger systems,” said David Henriksen, senior vice president, McKesson’s Physician Practice Solutions. “With McKesson Practice Choice, we took the best features from our existing solutions and other familiar technology applications to create from scratch a brand-new system that will appeal to a constituency that tends to be underserved, yet represents a large percentage of providers today.”

McKesson Practice Choice will be sold by McKesson and also by the company’s extensive network of value-added resellers. As the source for solutions that improve practice performance, McKesson offers a complete portfolio targeting the unique needs of physician practices. The company has solutions that can meet the needs of all practices, regardless of size, geographic location or specialty.

To further support primary care practices, McKesson also announced McKesson Practice Care, a service model that builds on EHR technology investment to provide a range of services, including patient-centered medical home consulting, online patient collection tools, automated patient reminder services, medical and office supplies and practice-based quality improvement reports.

For McKesson Practice Choice EHR users, navigation is simple, with one-button access to all areas of the system, including scheduling and billing applications. The new solution offers improved office activity tracking, daily reports on claims submissions and the ability to enter patient and insurance information at the point of check-in. In addition, Clinical Quality Measures can be run at any time, so a practice can closely track its progress toward meaningful use.

Integration with RelayHealth, McKesson’s connectivity business, provides secure messaging tools for patients and providers as well as connectivity to support health information exchange. Integration with Provider Friendly Terminology™ from Health Language allows for simple code look-up by common associations or abbreviations versus the traditional form of memorizing billing codes. Physicians no longer have to worry about keeping up-to-date on the new billing codes because the EHR will take care of that for them.

For more than 20 years, McKesson has been creating solutions specifically designed to help physician practices reduce time spent on administrative tasks and meet the needs of running a modern practice. Solutions range from clinical and revenue management software to medical-surgical equipment to connectivity solutions, as well as a wide variety of EHR solutions including Practice Partner®, Medisoft® Clinical and Lytec® MD. More than 125,000 providers currently use McKesson physician EHR or practice management systems.

“At McKesson, we are passionate about the long-term vitality of physician practices and we recognize that encompasses far more than meaningful use,” stated Henriksen. “In today’s challenging environment, practices need a full suite of clinical, financial and operational tools to optimize the health of their businesses.”
