Humedica, Anceta & Mount Kisco Medical Group to Present at the AMGA’s 2010 Institute for Quality Leadership Conference

Humedica, Anceta and Mount Kisco Medical Group to Discuss How to Leverage Analytics and Comparative Data to Achieve ACO Status and to Succeed under a Value-based Purchasing System

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- This Friday, Humedica , a next-generation clinical informatics company, Anceta, and Mount Kisco Medical Group will present at the American Medical Group Association’s (AMGA’s) Institute for Quality Leadership (IQL) Conference. With the event’s theme of “Creating High-Performing Care Organizations,” the speakers will speak on using business intelligence tools to achieve Accountable Care Organization (ACO) status.

In line with this theme, Abe Levy, MD, chief medical officer and chief quality officer at Mount Kisco Medical Group; A.G. Breitenstein, vice president and general manager at Humedica; and John Cuddeback, MD, PhD, chief medical informatics officer at Anceta, will discuss how Humedica’s business intelligence tool, Humedica MinedShare™ Ambulatory, in concert with the Anceta Comparative Data Warehouse (CDW), provides healthcare leaders with the information needed to establish performance improvement, measurement, and monitoring systems to become a high-performing care organization that qualifies as an ACO.

“According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), approximately $1 out of every $10 spent on inpatient care could be prevented with more effective ambulatory care and patient self-management,” said Dr. Levy. “Mount Kisco Medical Group is leveraging the Humedica MinedShare platform and collaborating with other AMGA members who are participating in the Anceta CDW to identify opportunities to improve care coordination in order to qualify as an ACO.”

“Timely access to accurate longitudinal clinical data is critical to delivering highly coordinated patient care and becoming a high performing healthcare organization and successful ACO,” said Don Fisher, PhD, CAE, chief executive officer of AMGA and chairman of Anceta. “Many of our members, who are committed to succeeding as ACOs, are benefitting from collaboration with their peers, many of whom are Anceta participants. Medical groups are coming together around real-world data to focus on cost-effective quality improvement, across inpatient and outpatient settings.”

The presentation discusses the key drivers of cost as it relates to the patient with diabetes. Leveraging Humedica’s MinedShare platform, the presenters discovered that hypertension and renal complications were major drivers of hospital re-admissions and cost for the patient population with diabetes. Therefore, delaying the onset of end-stage renal disease will have a positive effect on lowering admissions and cost in patients with diabetes. Through Anceta’s collaborative activities, multi-specialty medical groups come together to both identify and quantify population-level cost-saving opportunities through benchmarking. Participating medical groups are then able to take these lessons learned back to their own practices and drill-down to their specific patients in need of care management with the Humedica MinedShare tool.
