Hospital Marketplace E-Course Suite Adds Insight on Quality and Information Systems

RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 8, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Pharmaceutical Institute, a leading provider of specialized training solutions for the pharmaceutical and biotech industry and a subsidiary of Campbell Alliance, has expanded its Managed Markets Excellence® Hospital Marketplace e-course series.  It has added two new e-courses:  Hospital Quality and Institutional IT Systems.  These courses were developed to elevate the commercial professional's understanding of quality programs and IT systems operating within hospitals.

"The Pharmaceutical Institute continues to extend the breadth of its advanced managed markets training solutions to help teams overcome the complex challenges posed by the institutional marketplace.  Applicable knowledge of hospital quality and information systems—and their respective connections to drug utilization—is increasingly important to hospital sales professionals and account managers," says Garry O'Grady, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Pharmaceutical Institute.

The latest Hospital Marketplace additions join three existing modules, Hospitals and Group Purchasing Organizations, Formulary Access, and Demand Creation, designed to educate sales professionals on the inner workings of hospitals and the critical steps required to gain formulary acceptance and increase drug utilization. The expanded series now includes:

  • Hospital Quality
This course was designed to increase sales professionals' fluency in the various aspects of quality in the hospital setting and increase their familiarity with the organizations, personnel, and strategies involved in measuring and reporting hospital quality metrics.  It highlights CMS's core quality measures; accrediting organizations; and other groups that measure, communicate, or impact quality.  It also conveys the challenge and importance of emphasizing quality, as well as the roles responsible for upholding quality standards.

  • Institutional IT Systems
This course was developed to promote understanding of institutionally based information systems—particularly those in hospitals and integrated delivery networks—as well as the manner in which those information systems affect drug utilization.  It explores key technologies, including electronic medical records, pharmacy information systems, computerized physician order entry, clinical decision support systems, automated dispensing, and barcoding.

The Hospital Marketplace Suite is part of a robust family of Managed Markets Excellence® e-courses designed to fill the critical need for basic and advanced managed markets training.  For more information on the Managed Markets Excellence® training solutions, please visit:
