HIMSS Electronic Health Record Association Elects New Leadership

CHICAGO, July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Electronic Health Record Association (EHR Association) announced today its newly-elected Vice Chair and Executive Committee members as well as the re-election of the Association's Chairman. The Association represents a significant majority of installed electronic health record systems in the US. Established in 2004 and supported by the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the Association strives to maintain a balance in its leadership to ensure that member companies that serve the ambulatory market and those that serve the enterprise healthcare provider market are equally represented.

In announcing recent election results, Justin Barnes, who is a Vice President at Greenway Medical Technologies and newly re-elected as EHR Association Chairman, said, "We are truly blessed to have individuals with such professional stature and industry experience join our leadership team. Congratulations to them all and we look forward to a progressive year ahead as we witness unprecedented government and public focus on the role that EHRs will play in healthcare transformation."

Mark Segal, PhD, Director of Government and Industry Affairs at GE Healthcare IT, was elected to the position of Vice Chairman. Mark was formerly a Senior Manager for Global Strategy in the HCIT Global Strategy Organization. Prior to joining GE Healthcare in 2006, he spent over 20 years in healthcare, focusing on public policy, advocacy and product management.

Carl Dvorak, Executive Vice President with Epic Systems, was elected to the Executive Committee to replace Andy Ury, MD, formerly of McKesson and Practice Partner, and a founding member of the EHR Association. With more than 20 years experience at Epic, Carl is well known in the HIT standards community and previously served on the Association's Executive Committee from 2004-2006.

Maria Rudolph, Vice President of Medical Informatics for eMDs and Charlie Jarvis, FACHE, Vice President for Healthcare Industry Services and Legislative Affairs for NextGen, were re-elected to their Association Executive Committee positions. They will serve with other Executive Committee members including Michele McGlynn, Strategic Manager in Government and Industry Affairs for Siemens Medical Solutions; Rick Reeves RPh., Senior Manager Product Development Services at Computer Programs and Systems Incorporated (CPSI); and Steve Tolle, Vice President of Product Management at Allscripts Healthcare Solutions.

Barnes went on to recognize Dr. Ury and Charles Parisot, Manager, Architecture and Standards for GE, both of whom are stepping down from their Association Executive Committee roles. "I'd like to thank Andy for his service and dedication to the Association," Barnes said. "Andy, one of the original founders and vice chairman for two terms, has provided important leadership and made tremendous contributions to our accomplishments. And I'd be remiss if I didn't also thank Charles Parisot. Charles has led the Association's work on our Interoperability Roadmap and has effectively represented us with HITSP, IHE and other important standards initiatives."

Dr. Ury, along with Charlene Underwood, Director of Government Affairs at Siemens, both past chairs, will serve on the Executive Committee in ex officio roles.
