HHS Secretary Sebelius to commemorate the second anniversary of health reform in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Secretary Sebelius to participate in a conversation about women’s health at the residence of Linda Hamilton

--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- U.S. Department of Health & Human Services:

WHAT:

U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius will gather in a living room with U.S. Senator Al Franken, Congresswoman Betty McCollum, Governor Mark Dayton, and Minnesota women to hear their stories about experiencing health care insecurity, including worrying about gaps in coverage for a spouse, parent or child, and facing financial hardship and discrimination from insurance companies. Secretary Sebelius will participate in a conversation at the residence of Linda Hamilton with women and mothers to discuss how the health reform law, the Affordable Care Act, has put Americans back in charge of their health since it was signed into law two years ago on March 23, 2010. Secretary Sebelius will highlight how women in particular are disproportionally impacted by insurance company abuses such as discrimination on pre-existing conditions, coverage recessions and lifetime limits on care. Because of the law, being a woman will no longer be considered a pre-existing condition, and now families everywhere can rest easier knowing that it is illegal for insurance companies to discriminate against children because of a pre-existing condition.
