HealthPlus of Michigan Selects Edifecs to Achieve HIPAA 5010 Compliance

HealthPlus of Michigan will use Edifecs5010™ Solution to manage their 5010 mapping, translation and validation

BELLEVUE, Wash., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Edifecs, Inc., a leading provider of healthcare software solutions specializing in Healthcare Channel Modernization for HIPAA 5010 and ICD-10, announced today that HealthPlus of Michigan has selected Edifecs solutions to accelerate their efforts to meet the upcoming HIPAA 5010 compliance mandate. HealthPlus, a nonprofit health benefits company serving more than 200,000 people throughout the state of Michigan, will use Edifecs SpecBuilder and XEngine products for mapping and translation of inbound and outbound HIPAA 5010 transactions.

HealthPlus of Michigan selected Edifecs as its partner to help them accelerate their efforts to achieve the upcoming Level 1 (1/1/2011) and Level 2 (1/1/2012) HIPAA 5010 compliance deadlines mandated by CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) without the need to replace or remediate their existing core processing systems.

One of the biggest challenges for organizations in meeting HIPAA 5010 compliance is adapting legacy systems to support the new format. The Edifecs5010 solution provides a cost-effective and scalable option for healthcare organizations to exchange HIPAA 5010 transactions without the need for upgrading or replacing core processing systems, thereby keeping risk, scope and expenses under control. The solution also provides a foundation for more easily transitioning from ICD-9 to ICD-10 standard.

"HealthPlus has a very rigorous process for selecting vendors and technologies to support key strategic business initiatives," said Julie Boyer, Senior Director of Information Systems for HealthPlus of Michigan. "Edifecs met our standards both from a partnership perspective but also in offering a high-performing, scalable solution for meeting 5010 compliance within budget and with minimal impact to our business."

"We are very pleased to be working with a recognized leader in service and quality," said Chanbir Mann, Chief Operating Office for Edifecs. "Our solution for 5010 compliance will support HealthPlus of Michigan in meeting this important mandate within budget and scope without having to divert attention away from other important corporate initiatives."
