First ever dual accreditation for HealthPartners
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- HealthPartners announced today that it received accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance for its commercial and Medicare health plans. Both plans received “excellent” accreditation status, the highest status awarded by the NCQA, which conducts the surveys once every three years.
The HealthPartners commercial plan (a managed care combination of HMO, PPO and POS plans) has received the top status for the past eleven years. This was the first time that HealthPartners presented its Medicare plan for accreditation. Since NCQA is considered the most rigorous and thorough health plan accreditation in the industry, these accreditations help consumers and companies compare plans and make purchasing decisions.
In order to receive an “excellent” accreditation, the plans must meet and excel in five areas:
- Access and Service
- Qualified Providers
- Staying Healthy
- Getting Better
- Living with Illness
“HealthPartners achieved accreditation for managed care, PPO and Medicare Cost products under a common set of standards,” said Babette Apland, HealthPartners senior vice president for health and care management. “Achieving accreditation for both types of health plans allows consumers, employers and other purchasers to make reliable comparisons and to make more informed health care choices.”
To earn NCQA’s seal of approval, accredited health plans must meet more than 80 rigorous standards of care and service. Standards address coordination of care, complex case management and disease management programs, interactive consumer tools and health risk assessments.
