Healthland, America's market leader of healthcare information technology solutions for rural hospitals, today announced it will launch Centriq Clinic, an ambulatory solution designed to improve patient care by enabling complete and instant access to patient information across both the hospital and clinic. Designed with input from rural healthcare providers, Centriq Clinic streamlines data access and provides a full view of patient information, helping improve provider productivity and patient safety. Horn Memorial Hospital in Iowa and Faulkton County Memorial Hospital in South Dakota are currently working with Healthland as Beta clients.

“We were thrilled to work with Healthland on the development of this ambulatory solution,” said Michelle Weber, Horn Physicians Clinic, Clinic Director. “By working side by side with rural clinicians, Healthland has created a product that addresses our specific needs. Centriq Clinic provides numerous patient care tools and features that will benefit our entire community. Our staff is extremely excited to implement the new solution.”

Community wellness has become a key initiative at the government level. The United States’ aging population and economic challenges are driving changes in healthcare needs, particularly in the area of chronic illness. According to a recent article from , chronic diseases are responsible for 75 percent of healthcare costs in the United States. For rural areas with limited resources and a high population of aging residents, it is imperative to have the technology available to combat chronic illness, lower healthcare costs, and improve the health and vitality of its community.

“Quality healthcare is essential to community wellness,” said Michael Karaman, Healthland senior vice president for product. “That is what the launch of Centriq Clinic is all about – improving patient care across all settings. We’ve done this by working closely with rural clinicians to determine what is most important to them, such as: quick and easy access to patient data; preventative care tools that allow providers to be proactive; and increased productivity to provide more time for patients with less time on paperwork. We are committed to rural healthcare and Centriq Clinic is just another example of what Healthland is doing to improve patient care in these communities.”

Healthland Centriq solutions – Clinic, Hospital, Emergency Department, Home Health and Long Term Care – are all built on the same database. The single user interface means data is only entered once, but is accessible from all care delivery settings. This supports consistency across facilities and improves both usability and provider adoption – especially important in a rural environment where the majority of providers work in both the local hospital and clinic. The new solution also includes an optimized provider work center which allows providers to better manage patient care, quickly and easily. A recent survey by Sage Healthcare states that 77 percent of providers consider “ease of use and quickness” as top EHR characteristics. Healthland has focused on both during the design of Centriq Clinic and recently held a usability testing event for the new solution. Physicians and nurses from several rural clinics tested Centriq Clinic and provided feedback on the solution’s usability. Healthland will use this information as they continue to make adjustments in product design in preparation for the product launch in Q4 2012.
