Healthland Electronic Health Records Solution Helps Johnson Memorial Hospital Achieve Stage 1 Meaningful Use

Healthland client to receive funding under Medicare EHR Incentive Program

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Healthland, America's market leader of healthcare information technology solutions for rural hospitals, today announced that Johnson Memorial Hospital has achieved Stage 1 Meaningful Use. Johnson Memorial is a critical access hospital located in Dawson, Minn. After a successful 90-day reporting period of its comprehensive electronic health record (EHR) capabilities, the healthcare provider will now receive funding under the Medicare EHR Incentive Program.

“We expect to receive approximately $245,000 as our first payment from the Medicare EHR Incentive Program,” said Stacey Lee, Johnson Memorial Hospital CFO. “We also expect to receive additional funds over the next three years, which is critical for us as a rural hospital with limited resources. We completed the attestation process on August 30, 2011. With the certified Healthland EHR and support from our Healthland team, we were able to meet Stage 1 Meaningful Use much earlier than we expected.”

Johnson Memorial began its EHR strategic initiative two years ago, starting with the lab. The administration created two committees to help drive the success of implementation. Hospital officials say that staff involvement and communication with the Healthland team were crucial throughout the implementation and Meaningful Use attestation process.

“With the Healthland EHR, we are more efficient,” said Jill Christie, Johnson Memorial Family Nurse Practitioner and Healthland super user. “Much of the work is now done at bedside, allowing us more time for patient care. It was an adjustment at first; I had to change the way I thought about technology. Now that we’ve made the change, I don’t know how I would function without it.”

The Healthland EHR reporting capabilities were helpful for the Johnson Memorial staff as they worked toward Meaningful Use. The EHR solution enables users to pull real-time data, without manual audits. In addition, staff also took advantage of Healthland educational tools on Meaningful Use criteria.

“Getting our clients to Meaningful Use is one of our top strategic goals,” said Jim Anderson, Healthland Senior Vice President, Sales and Services. “Incentive funds are critical for these rural community hospitals and often times the only way they can implement an EHR solution. The Healthland EHR is designed specifically for the rural hospital market, enabling them to experience immediate benefits in efficiencies and patient care. We provide a complete solution with the products, services and support our clients need to provide care for their family, friends and neighbors. Our service and support team not only offers their time and expertise, but additional tools like our educational webinars, to help our clients throughout the attestation process.”

Today, Healthland is helping hundreds of hospitals across the country care for their communities, achieve Meaningful Use and receive EHR incentive funds.
