Healthland Clients Pave the Way toward Stage 1 Meaningful Use

Healthland opens 2012 with over 50 rural hospitals now meeting Meaningful Use

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Healthland, America's market leader of healthcare information technology solutions for rural hospitals, today announced new additions to its long list of clients certified for Stage 1 Meaningful Use. Healthland reports that over 50 of its clients now meet Stage 1 Meaningful Use – many of which have been the first to reach the milestone in their respective states including Minnesota, North Dakota, Louisiana and Wyoming.

“We are thrilled to be the first hospital in the state of North Dakota to reach this major milestone,” said Dan Kelly, CEO of McKenzie County Healthcare Systems. “It’s a real testament to the quality of the staff that we have at our hospital as well as the Healthland electronic health records (EHR) solution that we put in place. We’re looking forward to the benefits the system will bring, particularly Healthland’s single patient chart. We now have the capability to have staff from our hospital, clinic, nursing home and assisted living facility work from the same record with the same patient information. And, that is essential to ensure quality patient care in a multi-facility healthcare system like ours.”

As part of the Stage 1 Meaningful Use attestation, these healthcare providers will now receive funding under the Medicare EHR Incentive Program. This is crucial for rural hospitals with limited resources.

“Helping our clients qualify for EHR reimbursement funds is a top priority for Healthland,” said Jim Anderson, Healthland senior vice president of services. “For many rural hospitals, those reimbursements are the only way they can acquire an EHR solution and maintain their independence. Our solution gets our clients to Meaningful Use, quickly and easily, while allowing them to improve the efficiency, accuracy and overall quality of patient care.”

Healthland also reports that many of the healthcare providers completed their Stage 1 Meaningful Use attestation on its new EHR solution, Centriq®. Healthland Centriq is the only solution in the healthcare market designed for rural clinicians with input from rural clinicians.

”By partnering with Healthland, we provided input into the features of the final product, and because Centriq is certified for Meaningful Use, we knew we could qualify for the federal funding to help cover costs,” said Craig Wells, IT director at Grape Community Hospital. “That was all the incentive we needed to take on an aggressive implementation schedule to get us to Meaningful Use in the first year of eligibility and help us quickly recoup the up-front costs of the project.”

“Completing our reporting period and attesting to meaningful use was a huge milestone,” said Mike O’Neal, CEO of Grape Community Hospital. “This project has truly been a partnership between the hospital and Healthland, and shows what you can accomplish when you have a solid plan in place and people with the skills and motivation to make it happen. We look forward to the cost savings, increased medical record accuracy, and improved patient outcomes that the Healthland EHR will deliver for years to come.”

Healthland expects many more clients to attest for Stage 1 Meaningful Use in the coming months.
