Company Shares Expert Information to Help Patients Decide as Test Controversy Heats Up
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- According to a draft report, the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) will recommend (expected Tuesday, October 11) that men not get screened for prostate cancer. The USPSTF is set to recommend a “D” rating for PSA testing, which means there “is moderate or high certainty that the service has no benefit or that the harms outweigh the benefits”. Once the recommendation is made, there will be a comment period before the task force issues a final recommendation.
In light of this pending recommendation, Health Dialog, a leading provider of Shared Decision Making support services, has made its decision aid on prostate cancer testing, “Is a PSA Test Right for You?” publicly available here.
“There is much for men and their families to consider around whether or not to get tested,” said Peter Goldbach, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Health Dialog. “Because of all of the different tradeoffs and outcomes that can occur, with different levels of risk, the patient must be central to the decision with their physician. Unbiased, evidence-based information that explains all potential choices and outcomes is essential to quality care and helping patients choose what’s right for them.”
