Dell today announced the successful deployment of a full range of end-to-end solutions and services at as part of the organization’s efforts to transform patient care delivery by improving the access, sharing and protection of vital electronic medical records. Dell played a major role in the transformation, providing a combination of solutions that span end-user computing, servers, systems management and security software, storage, virtual desktop solutions, and professional services to reduce costs and complexity while elevating productivity and patient care.

Founded in 1948, Green Clinic has earned a reputation for its commitment to delivering quality community healthcare services to families throughout Louisiana. Today, approximately 450 employees, including more than 50 physicians, deliver a full range of critical and ancillary health services from a leading surgical hospital, community clinic and six satellite locations. To assure the highest level of patient care, Green Clinic increasingly has embraced leading-edge technologies to give physicians, nurses and administrators access to patient files and medical records from any location, on any Internet-connected device.

“Dell is a leading provider of innovative, end-to-end IT services and solutions, including BYOD,” said Tom Kendra, vice president and general manager of systems management at Dell Software. “Green Clinic is an excellent example of how we’re enabling safe and transparent access to crucial information without impacting security or compliance requirements. By bringing together the required software, desktop virtualization, security, server, storage, and systems management solutions, Dell delivers a holistic approach that helps drive efficiencies and cost savings.”

Faced with persistent problems caused by aging PCs, Green Clinic embarked on a full technology refresh to better support its clinical EMR system. After procuring new desktop devices and laptops for its clinic, hospital and satellite locations, the organization deployed a , which enabled Green Clinic to automate system provisioning, saving about $20,000 in EMR deployment costs by provisioning 155 laptops in just one day. The clinic also has reduced machine rebuild times from hours to minutes by using the KACE solution to wipe and reimage any corrupted or infected devices. Thanks to its Dell KACE deployment, Green Clinic reports that applications now run faster with fewer problems.

Additional time and cost savings have been realized by moving to a fueled by with Dell PowerEdge™ R610 and R710 servers with Dell PowerVault™ MD3 Series storage arrays. With assistance from Dell Deployment Services, Green Clinic was able to get its VDI environment up and running in three weeks. Now, the medical staff securely accesses centralized virtual desktops using a combination of , Dell Latitude E6420 laptops, and their own tablet PCs or smartphones.

Green Clinic also can leverage its KACE systems management appliance to push out updates on both physical and virtual desktops with new software releases in as little as five minutes. The ability to automate most of the routine systems management tasks has enabled Green Clinic to save about 20 hours each week in administration and travel. Additionally, the IT team relies on its Dell KACE solutions to manage devices both on and off the network, which meets HIPAA requirements for consistent levels of management for both remote and onsite workstations.

Another plus with Green Clinic’s Dell-enabled environment is the opportunity to empower clinicians and physicians to use their preferred tablets and smartphones without restrictions. As a result, Green Clinic’s IT team partners with physicians by recommending BYOD strategies while ensuring that any personal laptops are managed with the help of the KACE appliances. In the future, Green Clinic plans to add Dell’s KACE mobile device management solution to streamline management of all mobile devices.

Dell’s end-to-end solutions have helped Green Clinic to safeguard its doctors from being exposed to the risk of financial penalties. To ensure that protected health information is secure at all times, Green Clinic installed to lockdown its network connecting the clinic and satellite sites while optimizing bandwidth, which is especially important in rural areas with low-bandwidth connections. Data also is automatically encrypted on all hard drives, and in transmission, in keeping with compliance requirements.

To further protect critical systems and patient data, Green Clinic deployed , which alerts and blocks an organization’s network from potential cyber-attacks. Dell’s managed security offering also meets some of the key HIPAA compliance regulations, which is crucial since a healthcare organization could face up to $1.5 million in regulatory fines if patient data were to become compromised or stolen.
