Glacial Ridge Health System Improves Community Wellness with Healthland Electronic Health Records Solution

Critical Access Hospital expects to meet meaningful use with Healthland ONC-ATCB-certified EHR solution spring 2011

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Healthland, America's market leader of healthcare information technology solutions for rural hospitals, today announced that Minnesota healthcare provider Glacial Ridge Health System is live with Healthland’s ONC-ATCB-certified Electronic Health Records (EHR) solution. Glacial Ridge Health System (GRHS) includes a 19-bed critical access, trauma hospital and clinic in Glenwood, with an additional clinic in Brooten. The healthcare provider expects to meet Stage 1 incentives for meaningful use of certified EHR technology, as described in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), in spring 2011.

“Glacial Ridge has always been an early adopter of technology because our patients and community deserve the best quality healthcare we can provide,” said Heidi Engle, GRHS CIO. “An EHR solution that meets meaningful use requirements helps us provide our patients with better quality healthcare. Today all of our patient records are in one place and include data from both hospital and clinic visits. Our physicians have access to historical patient data at their fingertips, enabling them to make informed decisions with the most accurate and up-to-date information. As a result, we’ve improved patient care while saving time and costs.”

Officials at GRHS say the new EHR technology is also helping to improve community wellness. Healthland provides a single repository for all patient information that can be accessed across the continuum of care, enabling healthcare providers to alert a patient when they are due for specific appointments such as check-ups and immunizations. Patients also receive more time with physicians and nursing staff because all charting is done at bedside. In addition, departments such as pharmacy are now paperless, bringing increased efficiencies to patients.

“Glacial Ridge was one of Healthland’s first clients and they are an excellent example of innovation and quality healthcare in rural America,” said James Anderson, Senior Vice President of Sales and Services. “Today, we are experiencing success helping our clients fulfill requirements for meaningful use, create operational efficiencies and ultimately, improve patient care and safety in their community. By focusing solely on the rural community market and delivering measurable results, we’ve cemented our position as the market leader of EHR solutions for the 50-bed-and-under hospital segment.”

Improved processes and optimized resources are further benefits GRHS is experiencing with the Healthland EHR, enabling them to prepare for growth in the community. GRHS has expanded its ER and OR in the past few years and the healthcare provider expects to add new services in the near future.
