Virginia Governor Robert F. McDonnell has appointed FOAA Anesthesia Services (FOAA) Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Louise Hershkowitz, RN, MSHA, to a four year term to the Virginia Board of Nursing. Ms. Hershkowitz has been on FOAA staff for almost ten years and provides anesthesia care at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, Va., where she is also a clinical instructor for graduate students in the Georgetown University and Virginia Commonwealth University nurse anesthesia programs.

Ms. Hershkowitz serves on the board that oversees more than 200,000 licensees, including registered nurses, practical nurses, certified nurse aides, registered medication aides and certified massage therapists. Ms. Hershkowitz also serves on the Committee of the Joint Boards of Nursing and Medicine, which licenses certified nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetists and certified midwives.

“We are proud of Louise for all she has accomplished and congratulate her on her recent appointment to the Virginia Board of Nursing,” says Vincent J. Vilasi, Jr., MD, president of FOAA. “She is an excellent choice for the board, and her appointment exemplifies the respect she has earned and the professionalism she embodies in every project and assignment she assumes.”

Ms. Hershkowitz has been active for many years in nurse anesthesia organizations having served as president of the Virginia Association of Nurse Anesthetists, regional director and treasurer of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and member and chair of the AANA Foundation Board of Trustees.
