First DataBank Names Joseph E. Heins Vice President, Global Product Management and Marketing

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- First DataBank a leading provider of drug databases that help drive patient safety, today announced that Joseph E. Heins, PharmD, a veteran healthcare information technology industry executive, has joined the company as vice president, global product management and marketing. Heins joins First DataBank from DocuSys, an anesthesia information system provider (now part of Merge Healthcare), where he was executive vice president and chief operating officer. Heins is based in the company’s headquarters in South San Francisco, California.

In this newly-created executive leadership role, Heins will lead teams responsible for the creation of long-term strategic growth initiatives, development of the product roadmap, and ongoing management of the company’s product portfolio. Additionally, Heins will lead brand development initiatives and client marketing across First DataBank divisions in the United States, United Kingdom and Internationally. Heins will be responsible for ensuring that First DataBank’s market leading product line is expanded to meet the rapidly growing market needs for intelligent medication related content, including those created by the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act) of the US government.

Heins has more than 20 years of diverse upper management experience with roles in operations, sales, marketing, strategic planning, business development, product management and organizational development. While at Cerner Corporation, Heins was instrumental in the creation of the healthcare industry’s first integrated medication management solution, encompassing a single platform for computerized physician order entry, pharmacy, and bedside medication administration. Heins also held management positions at Eclipsys Corporation, McKesson Provider Technologies and Mediware Information Systems.

Heins began his career as an ambulatory care medicine specialist and adjunct professor, clinical pharmacy at the VA Medical Center in San Diego, California. In 2004, he served as a member of the Canada ePrescribing (CeRx) Standards Group, Canada Health Infoway. Heins received a Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of the Pacific, School of Pharmacy, Stockton, California and completed a post-graduate residency in clinical administration from the Medical University of South Carolina.
