Dr. Jamil Ahmed, the Buffalo, New York, brain injury specialist involved in the startling recovery of a New York City fireman who had been in a coma for nearly 10 years, has become an instant celebrity. Ahmed says he is getting calls and emails from all over the the country asking about the case. Firefighter Donald Herbert regained consciousness and began to talk not long after Ahmed administered a cocktail of drugs. The Buffalo University Medical Center rehabilitation medicine specialist, who went to medical school in Pakistan, says he will not reveal details about the exact drugs used. He does, however, say that he used drugs commonly employed for other purposes, including ones used for the treatment of ADHD, depression and Parkinson's disease.
