Ex-hospital employee sentenced for patient data theft

A former Florida Hospital employee on Monday was sentenced to a year of prison after stealing more than 763,000 patient records, according to prosecutors. From 2009 to 2011, Dale Munroe II registered patients as they came to the emergency room and then sold their information, including phone numbers and treatment information, the Orlando Sentinel reported. After the hospital fired Monroe, his wife, who also worked at the hospital, stole patient information. Conspirators at an injury hotline used the information in a scheme to solicit customers for lawyers and chiropractors. Article
