Emmi Solutions Helps Set Patient Expectations Prior to Hospital Stays

Data shows patients who view Emmi® programs rate higher in HCAHPS surveys

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Emmi Solutions, creator of interactive online patient engagement solutions, is committed to helping patients better understand what to expect in advance of their hospital stay. This is demonstrated in part by the release of a new program “What to Expect During Your Hospital Stay,” that answers common patient questions about important topics that are measured by the government survey known as Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS).

The program doesn’t ask any questions from the HCAHPS survey or attempt to encourage specific responses; rather it proactively addresses HCAHPS topics such as the importance of communication with doctors and nurses, pain management, medication management, noise and cleanliness levels, and how to prepare for recovery at home.

A recent retrospective data analysis at Phoenix-based Banner Estrella Medical Center, part of Banner Health, found that patients who viewed an Emmi program that walked them through their upcoming medical procedure rated the hospital significantly higher in patient satisfaction scores, as measured by HCAHPS. Specifically, 88 percent of patients who viewed the program rated their hospital experience very highly (a 9 or 10 on a 10-point scale) compared to only 75 percent of patients who did not view the program – a 17 percent increase. Additionally, 89 percent of patients who viewed the program answered they would recommend their hospital compared to 81 percent of patients who did not view the program.
