CHICAGO and ELYRIA, Ohio, April 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX) announced today that EMH Regional Healthcare System will implement the Allscripts Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) to streamline and improve emergency operations in its three locations, which together received nearly 85,000 emergency room visits in 2009.

Ed Duryee, Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer of EMH, said the Allscripts EDIS will benefit the health system's physicians and nurses, as well as patients. "Today, our ED physicians spend a significant amount of their time looking for information, but with Allscripts we'll push the information to them so they can make faster and more informed decisions," Duryee said. "That in turn will improve our throughput so patients spend less time in the ER waiting to be treated."
Allscripts Emergency Department Information System streamlines processes for the entire Emergency Department, including tracking, triage, nurse and physician charting, disposition and reporting. Integrated features include "one-click" access to individual patient charts, the ability to view multiple charts simultaneously, to track the entire patient treatment experience at a single glance, and alerts that notify the clinician of overdue treatment times, medication conflicts and conflicting orders.

Also influential in the decision, Duryee said, was EMH's 20-year relationship with North Ohio Heart Center, the region's largest cardiology physician group, whose 30 cardiologists and 24 primary care physicians use the Allscripts Electronic Health Record.
